Regional identity and biological diversity

BEN - Biodiversity and Ecology in National Parks: Biological invasions, regional identity and biodiversity through the example of Rosa rugosa The Japanese Rose (Rosa rugosa) is one of approximately 50 non-native species, whose biological invasion is in conflict with nature conservation in Germany. The expansion of Rosa rugosa is a major threat for species-diversity in coastal dunes of NW Europe. On the other hand, positive aspects of R. rugosa include erosion control and a recreation value. The aim of this project is to identify exceedingly spreading genotypes of Rosa rugosa with genetic analysis (RAPD-technique), thus focusing on monitoring measures of nature conservation on these characterised genotypes.
