Historical parks possess a high nature conservation value. The development of conservation goals and management practices need frequent communication between conservationists and monument conservators. This research project was initiated to improve the dialogue among the stakeholders.
We discuss good and bad examples of the implementation of nature conservation goals in five historical parks in Berlin. The potential of old trees as habitats for rare and endangered species is described in a field manual drawn from the research. A new method of grassland management and tree treatment should reduce conflicts and give better insight into the management of parks.
